Shaping Bay

Hand-shaped surfboards and skimboards

Shaped by hand. Finished by hand. Ridden by you.

Every ZERV board starts as a foam blank in the bay and leaves as a one-of-one. Turn the board, change the outline, pour the resin. Then take the spec to the order page and go live your life.

Your spec Sheet

Take this spec to the order page →

Every custom board is a conversation. After you order, ZERV follows up on your height, weight, waves, and this spec before shaping begins.

New this week

Three new pieces for the days between sessions.

Heavy fleece for the cold walk back up the sand, and a boxy tee that holds its shape wash after wash. Pick a colorway, then grab it.

Build your fit

One layer, one tee, one lid. Then send the whole thing to the cart.

Real products, real colors, real sizes. Pick a piece for each slot or skip one, and the total updates as you go.

The craft

Six stages between a foam blank and your first wave.

Scroll and watch the board you just designed get built. Nothing here is automated; it is a planer, sanding blocks, fiberglass cloth, resin, and hours.

01 · Blank
01 · BLANK

Pick the blank to the rider.

A polyurethane blank with a wood stringer glued down the center. The blank is chosen for the rider's volume before a single line is drawn, because you cannot add foam back.

Tools: blank, stringer, straightedge
02 · OUTLINE

Trace the template. Cut it by hand.

Nose width, wide point, and tail width decide how the board paddles, where it wants to turn, and how it releases off the tail. The outline is traced from a template and cut with a handsaw.

Tools: template, pencil, handsaw
03 · FOIL & ROCKER

Take it down to the thickness profile.

The planer removes foam in long passes until the board has its foil: thin in the nose, full under the chest, tapering to the tail. Rocker is set at both ends. This is where the speed lives.

Tools: planer, calipers, rocker stick
04 · RAILS & CONCAVE

Shape the rails with sanding blocks.

Fuller rails for float and forgiveness, pinched rails for bite. Bottom concave is sanded in by hand to channel water and lift the board. No two hands do this the same, which is the point.

Tools: sanding blocks, screen, sureform
05 · GLASS & RESIN ART

Laminate, then pour the color.

Fiberglass cloth is laid over the foam and wet out with resin. Color goes in the resin itself, tinted, poured, and swirled while it is still moving. The art is in the board, not on it.

Tools: 4 oz and 6 oz cloth, resin, squeegee, pigment
06 · SAND, POLISH, FINS

Hot coat, sand, gloss, and set the fins.

A hot coat fills the weave, then sanding, gloss, and polish bring up the finish. Fin boxes are set to the setup you chose, the ZERV deck mark goes on, and the board goes to the water.

Tools: sander, polish, fin jig, deck mark
ZERV ON.

ZERV is a mindset before it is a brand. Keep moving. Stay switched on. Make things with your hands and take them to the water. Spend the day where the sand meets the sea and do not apologize for it. Whatever comes your way, ride it out.

01Just live life.
02Build it yourself, or know who did.
03The best session is the one you refuse to skip.
04Protect what inspires you.
05No noise. Just the essentials.
